The term “Digital Nomad” dates back to 1997 when the authors Tsugio Makimoto and David Manners, published a book with the title “Digital Nomad”. The book tried to explain how the upcoming technologies along with the urge of people to travel will make remote work more feasible in the future.

Nowadays and due to the pandemic outbreak, this term is more relevant than ever. Distance working is turning into a lifestyle movement, with freelancers, entrepreneurs and self-employed people making up the majority of the Digital Nomad Crowd. In the meantime, all the big companies have been forced to let their employees working from home, with 77% of them saying that they are more productive, because they can create a more flexible schedule.

According to Global workplace analytics, 25% – 30% of the workforce will be working remotely from home by the end of 2021. But in that case people must face with another challenge, loneliness.

The question though is whether remote work means only working from home? Definitely not. People have now the opportunity to travel with their family or friends, combining work with vacation. Also, executives can plan brainstorming weeks in Greek villas. Exploiting the nice weather, it can be a great opportunity to boost their productivity and create a stronger bond with their co-workers.
